The Answers You Need

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Generally, a caricature drawing takes anywhere from 3-5 minutes per face (about 15 faces an hour). Which would mean two people would take twice that, and so forth.

DOES EVERYONE AT THE PARTY GET DRAWN?

It all depends on the number of guests.

DO YOU DRAW FROM PHOTOS OR CREATE “ENGAGEMENT PROPOSAL DRAWINGS”?

No, we do not.

DO YOU DRAW PEOPLE OF ALL KINDS AND AGES?

Yes, we draw caricatures of all kinds of people.

WHAT SIZE PAPER DO YOU USE FOR YOUR CARICATURES?

We use 11×17 sized paper for our caricature drawings. It is a good surface size for drawing, and is a standard size for framing and photocopying.

DO THE CARICATURES SMUDGE OR SMEAR?

Not generally. However, if run your fingers across the drawn lines on the caricature drawing itself then that area could smear.

DO YOU DO ANYTHING TO THE CARICATURE DRAWING WHEN YOU ARE DONE?

We roll the caricatures up and put them in a rubber-band so that it is easier and more portable for someone to carry. This also serves as a way to protect the caricature drawing as well.

WOULD YOU SUGGEST DOING A SIGN-UP SHEET OR NUMBER SYSTEM?

Most of our events are “first-come-first-serve” basis. A line is formed once people realize that caricature artists are drawing. This is generally pretty fair and the more popular option for weddings. However, some event planners prefer to designate someone that would help organize and maintain the order of those in line by using a sign-up sheet or number system.

DO YOU USE A “LINE-ENDER”?

The caricature artist will generally do a head-count sometime before his time is done, and will designate the people he will end his session with. This person (standing in line) will announce to the others in line that they will be the last person drawn. However, some event-planners prefer to designate one of their staff to serve as a line-ender.

DO YOU DO FULL-BODY “THEMED” CARICATURES?

For purposes of efficiency, we do just the head-and-shoulders for our caricatures at live events.

DO YOU OFFER COLOR?

We only offer black-and-white caricatures for our live-event services.

IS THERE RESTRICTIONS ON HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN BE DRAWN TOGETHER IN ONE PICTURE?

We have found it to work the best (both in terms of quality and quantity) to limit the caricature drawing to up to three subjects. The reason is because with each new person there is an extra consideration in terms of composing the caricature drawing which leads to a few more minutes of composition study. In other words, caricature drawing is more efficient with less people in the drawing. The fastest caricatures would then have 1-2 people in them.

WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE?

We draw with soft lead sticks and black markers.

DO YOU USE EXAGGERATION TECHNIQUES IN YOUR INTERPRETATION OF LIKENESSES?

Some caricature artists do employ varying levels of exaggeration within their individual style. We believe caricatures should be funny and entertaining, but not malicious.

IF WE HAVE A CARICATURE CAN WE PHOTOCOPY IT, AND IF SO DO THEY PHOTOCOPY WELL?

Yes, in terms of photocopying reproduction we allow unlimited copies to be made for private use. Due to the materials and size of paper we use, our caricatures photocopy extremely well.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM EVENT ORGANIZERS OR DO YOU BRING EVERYTHING?

We bring everything (materials, easel, tools, etc.) to create the caricatures.  Four chairs and enough lighting in the area to see our subjects is all you need to provide.

DO WE NEED TO DO ANYTHING WITH THE PICTURES TO PROTECT THEM WHEN WE GET HOME?

The caricature drawing will not smear under normal conditions. It is always recommended to get a frame to keep the caricatures preserved.
